Today, most universities are lacking proper colour education.
As colour experts we are actively working on emphasising
colour science, and making colour part of the educational
curriculum for students of design and architecture at degree level.
The work has paid off as we are frequently invited to share our colour expertise at universities all
around the world. We are now taking a step further, bringing our colour expertise to the United
States as we have been invited by one of the top ten architecture schools there to share our knowledge
with students of design and architecture at the University of Texas at Austin.
"As we've been actively working as professional colour educators worldwide, the United States
feels like a natural step." says Berit Bergström, Senior Advisor at NCS Colour and Past President
of AIC.
During three days, Berit Bergström will conduct lectures and workshops on the strategic use of colour,
and how it can significantly impact the design and functionality of an architectural space. Starting with
a colour design workshop on colour perception and communication, introducing the Natural Colour
System®© which is today the leading cross-industry standard for defining and communicating colours.
With talks about the importance of colour perception and how colour knowledge can be used as a design
and communication tool, we aim to create awareness about colours' influence on interior and exterior spaces.
"Colourising should contribute to a functioning whole, making it a complex task. For instance,
how can I be certain of how a colour will look on the wall of a room when combined with other
details, colours and light and what will the finished façade look like? During these days, I will
give the participants knowledge about the various factors that will affect the experience of a
selected colour, as well as giving them tools to communicate colour concepts in a straightforward
manner to facilitate the design process." says Berit Bergström.
The University of Texas at Austin is one of the nation's largest and most respected universities with almost
51,000 students yearly. A few notable alumni are Craig Dykers and Elaine Molinar of Snøhetta, C. William
Brubaker, former President of Perkins + Will and Fernando Belaúnde Terry, architect and former president
of Peru. For NCS Colour to be invited as a colour expert is a great honour, explains Berit Bergström.
The courses will be held on the 26th, 28th and 29th of March, 2015 at the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
